What kinds of cases do you take?

Typically, we take cases that affect the financial well-being of our clients: homeowners facing foreclosure, tenants facing eviction, consumers with incorrect information on their credit reports, people being harassed or abused by debt collectors, car buyers that were misled by a car dealer, people who have disputes with contractors, and people getting the runaround from insurance companies. This is what we call "consumer law".

We also do personal injury cases. We don't do family law or criminal law.

How Should I contact You?

Because there are so few attorneys working in consumer law in Kentucky, we get an incredible number of phone calls and emails each day. The best way to contact us is by using the form at the bottom of this page after reading the rest of the FAQs.

What happens after I contact you?

It depends. Sometimes, you have a problem we can't help you with. If that's the case, we'll write you back and tell you as much. If it is something we can help you with, we'll call you or write you to set up a consultation. We charge $180 for a consultation.

Unlike many attorneys, we charge a $180 consultation fee for our initial meeting with you. In our experience, many consumers can benefit from just a little bit of time, advice, and guidance from a lawyer. When we do a consultation with you, we review all of the relevant documents, get a detailed history of the dispute, and do initial research into your legal rights. We will advise you about the various options you have to resolve the dispute and what good next steps to take might be. Because we will spend a few hours preparing for and meeting with you, we charge you a flat consultation fee for that time.

Why do you charge a consultation fee?

Again, it depends. It depends on a variety of factors ranging from with whom you have a dispute to the facts of each particular case. Sometimes our cases are billed hourly to the client. Other times, we take a monthly retainer. Still others, we work for a contingent fee (we don't get paid unless you get paid). We work very hard to figure out a payment arrangement that is do-able for both us and you.

How much do you charge if you take my case?

Almost certainly. Like we said, we get a lot of requests for help. There may be other attorneys who can more quickly assist you or who may not charge a consultation fee. We have prepared a list of attorneys that might be able to help you with a particular legal issue.

Are there other attorneys that might be able to help me?
